“Abe Vigoda (born February 24, 1924) is an American movie and television actor best known for his supporting character roles, notably in the 1972 movie The Godfather, as well as his portrayal of the character Detective Sgt. Fish on the television series Barney Miller and the spinoff Fish.


Vigoda was born in New York City. He makes regular appearances as himself on the television show Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

In the early 1980s, Vigoda enjoyed a little extra publicity when a prominent magazine declared him dead. Vigoda took the error with good humor, posing for a photograph showing him sitting up in a coffin, holding the magazine in question.”
